For many years now the traditional First Night has been opening the festival. 2016 will be celebrated as an anniversary gala presenting numerous celebrity soloists that have significantly influenced the festival over the past 25 years. The Deutsche Filmorchester Babelsberg will be performing under the direction of Robert Reimer. As in every year, the opening night will close with a grand fireworks final.
At the same time, the First Night concert gives a glance of the concert evenings ahead, where our felicitators will be performing as well.

Viennese Spirit - from Strauß to Udo Jürgens

1992, the birth year of Classic Open Air – Gendarmenmarkt, along side a memorable evening starring José Carreras, with a Strauß concert while commemorating legendary concerts of  operetta and musical in the heart of Berlin. The enormous success led us to consistently include concerts with popular taste in music into our program, i.e. a complete Strauß evening, a Viennese operetta concert and a Musical evening respectively. In the 2016 Edition there will be a further version of the program genre, including Strauß, Stolz, Mozart, as well as successful musicals such as Elisabeth, Mozart, Falco, leading up to the most popular songs by Danzer, Fendrich and Ambros. This evenings climax will be a hommage to the late Udo Jürgens.
The majorly Austrian soloists will be accompanied by the Brandenburger Symphoniker under the direction of Heinz Walter Florin.

The World of the Opera in Light und Fire
Grand Opera Gala with Works by Verdi, Rossini, Wagner, Donizetti, Bizet

In recent years the concert on Saturday at Gendarmenmarkt establishes itself to be the classical evening. Along Barocco, Viennese Classic and Romantic Music this evening will be enacted with music of the  opera world. The concert will be impressively accompanied by fascinating  play of light, projections and pyrotechnical effects.
The ensemble of Theater Vorpommern, with its outstanding Philharmonisches Orchester under the direction of Golo Berg together with various soloists and choir will not cease to amaze you.

The Konzerthausorchester Congratulates to 25 Years

Famous compositions by Gershwin, Bernstein featuring solo performances by Cameron Carpenter & Ray Chen

At first the former Berliner Symphonie Orchester served supporting the birth of Classic Open Air – Gendarmenmarkt. After a few years of  intermittence the Konzerthausorchester is back on stage and will create a congratulatory evening in honour of the 25th anniversary of the festival performing works of composers such as George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein.
This evening will also be a present by the Konzerthaus in favour of its numerous and loyal rigtholders and features two of the currently most extraordinary soloist within the classical music scene: organist Cameron Carpenter and violinist Ray Chen. The orchestra is supported by innovative contemporary director Kristjan Järvi.

Chris de Burgh honors 25 years of Classic Open Air

with Band and Orchestra

This renowned world star once held a memorable concert at Gendarmenmarkt - and ever since Chris de Burgh himself counts that night at Classic Open Air Festival among his personal favourites. In honor of the 25th year of Classic Open Air Chris de Burgh will be performing a collection of his most beloved tunes together with his band as well as a symphonic orchestra.
